Resumo: This study aims at investigating the Artistic Gymnastics: corporal balance in the development of motor skills in the childhood education and during the first years of Elementary School, inviting the school to consider more seriously the inclusion of this sport as pedagogical content, having as a goal the justification of an educational practice in different contexts. In the first chapter, some bibliographical researches are presented in the perspective of new points of view on the practice of Physical Education based on the study of the curriculum so as to evaluate which are the contributions of Artistic Gymnastics facing these curricular experiences. In the second chapter, a historical review of the Artistic Gymnastics was made, exposing its origins, its inter-relation with the school curriculum and its actual benefits to the development of a child‟s corporeity. The methodology applied to this study is demonstrated in the third chapter, where all the way followed to reach this final work is detailed: the environment observed, the interviews, the procedures and the materials. Four groups were analyzed: one of childhood education, from 4 to 5 years of age, and three of Elementary School, aging from 6 to 11 years old. Through a qualitative approach, it was possible to apply the action research, therefore in some moments the researcher acted as a teacher. Fifteen classes were made. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews made with the schools pedagogical department and the teachers at the institutions, following open questions; furthermore, videos were used as an instrument for the descriptions and analyses of the classes. The class environments were always inside a Gymnasium or indoors, the material used in these classes was the main point of this work, which demonstrates to its readers that it is possible for the teacher to develop and contemplate the necessary motor skills during the first years by using adapted and easily made apparatus. And, finally, in the fourth chapter there are descriptions of all the classes so as to collaborate with the ludic side of the class, showing illustrations of different class models, evaluating also the students‟ behavior and attitudes during the classes, and the pedagogical construction and the didactics applied by teachers involved in the activities. These results suggest there should be an approach of the Artistic Gymnastics in the Physical Education classes and its inclusion in the school curriculum.
