Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) has been the focus of great concern, given an increasing number of cases and impairments caused in the person with the disorder and their family. For the difficulties to be alleviated, specific methodologies in the treatment and education of these individuals is necessary, therefore, it was adopted the TEACCH approach – Treatment and Education of Autistic and Communication related handicapped Children. Thus, this study intended to: develop the linguistic aspects, cognitive, social and the way children with ASD play in their own homes, through the TEACCH approach. This was a qualitative research, case type study, because it also allows a rich descriptive data assessment, providing support for analysis. A systematic collection of information was conducted through literature review, theoretical foundation of the research based on principles and concepts of the TEACCH approach, as well as participative and active observation through psychoeducational intervention. This study was conducted in the homes of the children studied. The collected data was obtained through six specific protocols required by the TEACCH approach, that helps to observe the areas of development, individual characteristics of autistic symptoms, cognitive, communication, sociability and play. It was also utilized an interview with parents and teachers and a field journal. For data analysis the following categories were defined: ASD profile features, cognition, play, sociability and language. The participants were two children diagnosed with ASD, both aged seven, parents, a teacher and a teacher's assistant. The data obtained suggests that the TEACCH approach can offer benefits to individuals with ASD and their families, such as developing notions of living in society, greater academic achievement, language and play development. However, because it is a case study, this research showed as base a very limited audience, which is why it is suggested that future studies should be done on the TEACCH approach for children with ASD in a household level.
